This excursion is dedicated to those people who want to get in touch with the Sardinian traditions and the mountain landscape offered by the island. Tempio Pausania is the provincial capital of Olbia-Tempio and it is renowned for the granite quarrying and cork production. It is set in the heart of Gallura, at the foot of the Limbara Mountain, and it is 60 km. far from Costa Smeralda and 40 km. from Olbia.

The town is set in the middle of a cork-oak wood and it is renowned for the granite stone extracted from the several caves of the area. In fact, the granite rocks and the green landscape create a unique view. Also, the blowing wind eroding the rocks creates proper works of art, as the view of "La valle della luna" (Moon Valley).
As the granite is a strong stone, in ancient times it was used to build the Nuraghi of the area, while nowadays it is used to build roads and churches as also as a decoration for  public buildings. Furthermore, the town is famous for its cork-oaks, where the cork is important for the economy of the island. It is mostly used for handicrafts and souvenirs.
Arrival at Tempio in the late morning for a walk in the town. The historical center has many granite buildings dated between 1800 and 1900 and the most interesting are S.Pietro cathedral, Oratorio del Rosario and the town hall.
