Nuragic Complex of Barumini

Archaeological site of Barumini
This excursion is dedicated to those people who want to know about Sardinian culture and traditions: from the renowned Nuraghe of Barumini, the most important and well-kept of the island, to the Giara di Gesturi and its typical little horses, until the village of Villamar with its characteristic murales.
Departure from the hotels of the south coast with the bus. We drive through a very green area towards the inland, the so-called Campidano. In the way, we will cross vineyards, cereal and artichoke fields, and at Senorbì we will take the “little green train”, a renowned panoramic train to the village of Mandas (about 30 minutes driving).
Then, we continue by bus to the village of Barumini where the famous Nuragic complex “Su Nuraxi” is. The Nuraghe (dated 3.500 b.C.) represents a period in which the Nuraghic civilization was developing and thanks to its well-kept architecture, it can be considered as one of the most important proof of Sardinian life at that time. It consists of a central tower (1500 b.C.) surrounded by other four towers. Around the complex, which is a kind of “fortress”, there are the ruins of the ancient village with the cult-places, meeting places and housings.
After the guided visit of the ancient building, we might have a light lunch in a typical restaurant (with € 12,00 extra we might have a main course, a drink and a salad). Then, we continue to the high-plateau of the Giara di Gesturi a natural park where the famous wild horses live (entrance not included).
On the way back to Cagliari we visit the village Villamar, famous for its typical wall paintings, the so-called “murales”.
